Welcome to Journey to Health, a SampsonRMC program that focuses on helping people lead a healthier lifestyle.  The goal is to move away from being overweight and obese by changing basic behaviors.

Obesity has emerged as a priority in chronic disease prevention as it increases the likelihood of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and stroke. In the most recent 2019 Community Health Needs Assessment, it was noted that almost 75% of Sampson County citizens are either overweight or obese.

As leaders in community heath, The Center for Health + Wellness and Sampson Regional Medical Center have created Journey to Health to help guide our community toward a healthier lifestyle and away from obesity.  Journey to Health helps promote the North Carolina guidelines to address obesity, which include the Eat Smart, Move More NC initiative. Eat Smart, Move More NC promotes seven evidence-based, individual health behaviors to help reduce obesity:

Move More - Increase Physical Activity

Eat More Fruits and Vegetables

Eat More at Home

Right-size Your Portions

Drink More Water and Less Sugar-Sweetened Beverages

Watch Less TV/Reduce Screen Time

Breastfeed Your Baby ***offered as a separate program***

These basic behaviors, as well as goal-setting and action planning, are covered in the free Journey to Health program. The goal is to help people make healthier choices with eating and physical activity, which will lead to a healthier lifestyle.  Join us in the fight against overweight and obesity and the health risks they pose.  Join us in Journey to Health.
