Transition to Professional Practice

Apply Now

TOPRN at SampsonRMC gives future nurses the opportunity to apply classroom learning to a hands-on clinical setting. The Transition to Professional Practice (TOPRN) is the first level of SampsonRMC’s Clinical Ladder program.

TOPRN 1 is the starting level, specifically designed for nurse externs entering SampsonRMC during their final semester of nursing school or in the continuum between their final senior semester and their first year of nursing. TOPRN 1 is a 6 month program that includes both classroom learning and hands-on clinical experience at a progressive pace designed to make a successful transition to professional practice. Successful completion of the TOPRN 1 level elevates the participant to the TOPRN 2 level.

Eligibility:

  • Senior nursing students enrolled in an accredited RN program in the final semester
  • North Carolina licensed RN for one year or less

Program Overview

  • Progressive nurse-to-patient ratios, with gradual progression to a full assignment
  • Education program designed specifically to meet the needs of RNs in this program, PLUS:
  • Unit-based orientation and preceptorship with a nurse preceptor
  • Routine check-in sessions
  • Mentors from past programs
  • Up to full-time hours (minimum of 120 pp)
  • Opportunities to meet and engage with nursing leadership and Chief Nursing Officer

Our TOPRN program gives you the opportunity to experience SampsonRMC. If you have what it takes to be a patient-centered, role-model nurse, we invite you to join the SampsonRMC team through our Transition to Professional Practice Pathway (TOPRN).
